I am currently using Ancestry's Family Tree Maker 2006 version. However, I intend upgrading my desktop computer and my problem is that I don't have the original FTM 2006 disc to install the program on a new computer. But before i buy a new Family Tree program from Ancestry, I would like to know if the newer versions of FTM are compatible with my 2006 version. I have quite a lot of information collected and stored on it and I don't want to risk losing it.
Has anybody else been in a similar situation or can anybody give me advice about this?
    Thanks in Advance.

Family Tree Maker and Ancestry have split – FTM is now a separate entity, owned by MacKiev and its direct links with Ancestry are being phased out.
You should be able to transfer the files and the programme across to the new PC from the old one, but back-up the family files first.
The updates can be purchased by download or on disc.

The new versions of FTM are compatible with the old, but not the reverse – i.e. when you upgrade to a newer version of FTM and install it on your PC, it will ask you if you want to convert the old tree file.
I have upgraded FTM several times and never lost any data.
I would contact the FTM service deskto ensure that the current update will 'go back' to 2006. (It probably does, but check...)
