Because of his surgery (bilateral joint stabilsation) and osteoartritis the vet recommended that I give Sam fish oil and glucosamine.
He was on luposan and salmon oil. The luposan has run out.
Before I order another batch of it, is there better and/or cheaper options as is if expensive stuff.
Also, the brand of salmon oil on zoolus isn't there anymore. Are all salmon oils created equally?

I like the Healthy Hounds salmon oil, there was a Crufts discount that TK123 put up on here in the bargains thread, but that will have run out now unfortunately. Based in Northern Ireland, the woman that owns the company is lovely and is careful about where she sources her products from.

Did he mention cartrophen - monthly injections after surgery seems to be the done thing now?

my boy has had his first Cartrophen injection - hes having one per week for a month, then a review - second injection tomorrow, and anti-inflammatories every day.

OP I have always given my dogs Glucosamine/Chrondroitin from Nutriscience - an Irish firm based in Waterford - called Arthriaid - nutriscience.ie

I use Luposan for both of them and Riaflex too for Bailey. He has minimal arthritis which is amazing with his past surgeries and history. I'm using the Luposan 6-7 years now! Just FYI in case it's suggested - turmeric paste thins the blood and shouldn't be used if you're using NSAIDs.

The people who specialise in animal joint health will tell you that there's scant evidence to support the use of chondroitin or glucosamine to improve joint health. Omega 3 is where it's at, evidence-wise.
As it happens, all 3 are often found in fish oils and fish... But just be aware that it's only the essential fatty acids that have evidential support when it comes to easing aches joints :)

I've just had to start my cat Cream on J/D food as he's starting to develop arthritis :( i normally wouldn't rate hills as a very good food but the prescription ones do have their uses. It has all supplements included in it, and as soon as my next zooplus order arrives I'll be starting him on salmon oil again too.
Might be worth looking into for your dog?

Luposan has omega 3s too... and should be paying me commission at this stage lol! :p

Chia seeds are full of omega 3. I get some for my horse at www.nutsinbulk.ie added benefit is that they have omega 6 along with other vits and minerals as well.

I've often wondered about adding some to some wet feed for my dog - they actually go all gooey when you ad water to them so not sure if he would eat them.
