John Surtees, the only man to win the Formula One and motorcycle grand prix world titles, has died at the age of 83.

Surtees, who won the F1 championship in 1964 to add to his 500cc motorcycle titles from 1956, 1958, 1959 and 1960, “passed away peacefully” on Friday after a short period in intensive care.

I think only Jackie Stewart is left now of all the f1 champions before 1971. But Sir Stirling Moss (almost F1 champion) is still out and about.

Must have been so hard for John Surtees to see his son killed a few years ago.

Wonderful man. Watching Legends of Formula 1: John Surtees on Sky Spts F1.
Why he didn't get Knighthood is beyond belief.

Unique guy to be champion on both bikes and in cars.
He was fairly active in the paddock up until a year or two ago.

    RIP
