Anyone know if a car will fail the NCT if a passenger door is not opening from the outside handle? It is opening from the inner handle but not the outer 1. Thanks in advance.

    Yes it will fail.

    NCT manual https://www.ncts.ie/media/1004/nct-manual-july-2014.pdf
    1. Open each door and check the security of catches and receivers.

NCT is about safety. If someone is stuck inside and the firefighters/gardai cannot open door, that's bad

I'd say while on paper it is a fail, chances of tester finding this fault are small.

they have always open and slammed shut every door on my cars, each and every time i've had the pleasure of attending.

It is intermittent so I presume the lock is ****ed. Hopefully it works tomorrow!!

I've never seen them shutting or opening mine... Not the passenger ones.

Don't they have to open them to check the seat belts anyway?

Well they definitely check all doors anyway... Fortunately for me the door opened when he tried! He slammed it shut and when I tried outside the test after it wouldn't open! Haunted.

It's gone too petty to be about safety now

If the door did open once it's probably just a small issue with the mechanism and you can hopefully sort it yourself or a local mech can without much cost.

You need to remove the door card and have a look.
