I've attached a photo of an engine part from a 2L diesel Kia. Can anyone identify what it is? Have a oil leak from one of the braided lines going to the engine block from it. Thanks.

looks like its attached to the alternator, could it be power steering pump, is it definitely oil thats leaking, have you checked the power steering fluid level?

    Power steering fluid OK.

Dropped into local mechanic. Said it's a vacuum pump and braided line, which runs to the engine block, is leaking oil.

I agree it's a vacuum pump, probably for the brake servo, but I don't see the braided line.

Look at the bottom right corner of the photo. It's obscured by the metal bracket.

I think I see it but I can't see enough to figure out what it is.

You say one end goes onto the block, does the other end go onto the vacuum pump? What part of the block does it go onto, an oil gallery, a coolant passage etc? or could it be onto the head?

Generally speaking, if I'm right about it being a vacuum pump for the brake servo, there should be a vacuum line from the pump to the brake servo. The only liquid that could get into that is brake fluid from a faulty master cylinder. Is the brake fluid level OK?

Attached an explosion diagram Kia provided.

Part is 37392A - oil supply pipe

The vacuum pump would have an oil feed and a return for the oil to return to the sump.
From the pic it would seem that the oil is coming from between the vacuum pump and alternator -so there could be a small leak from the drive for the vacuum pump. Don't think the hose is leaking .
