What would be the estimated price range be for small to medium sized dog e.g. Bichon , Maltese, Shih Tzu , King Charles etc from kennel club breeder?

We paid €600 4 years ago. A substantial part of that was microchipping, all vaccinations and a blood test for an health issue particular to that breed (which had to be sent away to the UK for analysis). We got her when she was 14 weeks old so fully socialised and weaned from her mother.

It depends what breed you go for. Maltese would run into four figures. I paid £650 sterling for my Sheltie five years ago.

As above, it depends on the breed. I have a maltese from a reputable breeder and he was €1400(this was a good while ago though and I think they may be slightly less now). Bichons and cavaliers would be cheaper, but still looking at €700+ I'd say.

Didn't know Maltese were that pricey - we got a rehome Maltese last year through a Facebook group complete with papers, vacs and chip. The owners found she needed more attention than they could give - she now sleeps in middle of 6ft bed and comes to work every day and is treated as a princess by about 10 staff. :)

Its also about this time of year that Christmas puppies become less of a novelty and many beautiful dogs including specialist breeds are available for rehoming either through shelters or as we found, on a relevant Facebook group.

remember the price of a puppy now has to include microchip and vaccinations. You will have to register the chip/puppy in your name when you get it, and pay for a cert. You will also have to pay for the remainder of its vaccinations, vet checks, its worm tablets (puppies need lots of wormers!!), its equipment, health insurance is a good idea for some of the breeds you mentioned as they are prone to health issues, grooming etc so the price of a puppy far exceeds what you pay the breeder - just in case you need to factor that in to your budget...

You're better off to figure out what kind of dog would suit your needs best regarding exercise, grooming, temperament, etc. than going for one based on cost.

Also depends on wether the breeder is a good breeder and gets all the relevant health tests, not health checks which are a different thing, for the breed you're looking for or you could be in for an expensive pet, especially with the king charles! Homework is the key!;)
