Benefits Debt

    Hi,

Just looking for a bit of advice here. My current contract is up in my job here and despite continuous looking, it looks like as of next week I will have to go on jobseekers. I was on illness benefit a few years ago for six months (healthy now again thank god) But they overpaid me. When they and i realised it it had added up to 1200 euro. I'm not sure if it has been paid off through my wages (i was taxed 200 extra a month for 6 or so months, but i don't know if it was for that). But if it hasn't it, do you know, will they refuse me my jobseekers or would i be able to pay a percentage of it towards repaying that debt. Any advice or anyone that was in the same situation would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you have any outstanding debt from an overpayment they will likely take it when you have your claim and processed and paid ,
they can now legally take up to 15% of a weekly payment till the over payment is recovered,
id ring them to find out if you do have any over payment to be repaid

Sorry i just got your reply now. Thanks so much! You were right, It was fine, they are taking 15 percent off the overpayment. Which is fine! Now just been offered a new job so back to work in a couple of weeks! Thankfully! Nearly lost my little mind.
