I've always been interested in owning my own home and while I'm a few years away from it, I don't see any harm in indulging myself in what kinda house I want.

From the way I see there are 3 options for buying a house: buying a new/second-hand build to live in, renovating an older house or building my own house from the foundation up.

Where can I see pro's and cons, budgets etc of each. I understand that budgets vary wildly but I'm just looking for generalizations to feed my curiosity?
