    Hi,

Moving into a new house in Booterstown this week, am not from Dublin so don't know the area at all. Wondering where the best or easiest access gym would be for me...will need to get bus for gym id say as I dont drive. Gym Im looking for would be a big gym with lots of equipment (cardio machines and weights) and not a personal training only kind of gym (like to work out on my own!). Any help would be appreciated, have been looking online and I just cant seem to make out where the best gym would be to go for me in terms of easy access. Thanks.

Two that spring to mind because they're close to Dart stations and not far from Booterstown are TNT in Blackrock and Crunch /Westwood in Dun Laoghaire. Haven't been on either but they're both close to dart stations and not utter sh*tholes as far as I know.

The former probably the cheaper of the two.

There's UCD also. Where do you work? You may have options en route.

Thanks for the replies from the both of ye!

Didn't realise you can join the UCD gym if your not a student? That gym seems ideal tbh could actually prob walk from where I'm going to be living. Any idea on prices in there?

Yeah they have open membership it's on the expensive side I think it's around 750 a year. Few things to note - it's very busy almost all the time when the students are around. There is a period in the evenings when students are restricted from entering (from approx 5.15pm) but if already inside they don't have to leave so in essence you get a load of students piling in around 5 so it doesn't quieten down till 6.30 or so, then it fills up at 9 again. The main draw for the place is the 50m pool, I don't think there's half enough equipment for the numbers using the place - 2 squat racks and 2 bench presses in the main gym, but in general it's ok. Go for a look around and see what you think, it might suit your needs. I however am thinking of moving from there to somewhere with more lifting equipment.

A student gym that's more expensive than most regular gyms? €750 per year? (edit: or is that non-student rates?). I paid €110 back in 2012 but that was the old gym.

Students are restricted from going to the college gym? After 5.15pm when classes are done? Crikey, wouldn't want to be a student these days if that's all true. Although being UCD doesn't surprise me somehow.

There is actually a second gym which students can use anytime (including the restricted hours in the main gym), and they don't have to pay any membership fees to use either. The big draw with UCD is the 50m pool - hence the price, anywhere with a 50m pool is going to be expensive enough to join (students do have to pay extra to use the pool).

It's not solely a student gym. It's possibly more than €750 I'm not sure as I'm alumni so I pay a different rate. It's on a par with other gyms of the same size with a pool such as Westwood or Riverview.
