Lapsed handicap

So my handicap has lapsed due to not being a member of a golf club since December 2015. I'm now ready to return to golf and will be joining a new club shortly. How will my new handicap be calculated or will my old handicap simply be transferred to new club ?

You will need to submit 3 cards at your new club and tell the H/Cap sec what your last handicap was.

Thanks but that doesn't really answer my question.

if your handicap lapsed, you have no official GUI handicap,
therefore you need to submit 3 new cards to your new club, but also need to inform them of your previous handicap.

Again, the question is, what is my new handicap based on? My old handicap or the 3 new cards?

I thought it was pretty clear. It's based off the 3 cards you will have to submit but your old handicap will be taken into account aswell.

    Best of luck

    Let's be honest here #thefairway.
1)You'll find a close friend who has a gui hcp
2)Play 3 round's of your worst golf ever
    3) Get your buddy to sign the cards making sure you have at least 110 strokes per card.
    4) Don't mention your old hcp.
    5) Practice as much as you can
    6) Only play non gui sanctioned events
    7) Until the captains prize if your ego needs the status.

Thanks, have had a couple of back operations since I last played and am looking froward to seeing if I can still swing a club. Was hoping to keep my previous handicap as I had worked hard to get it down as low as i could but can understand that they need 3 new cards to re assess.

Just highlighting flaws in the system. Until the gui addresses the issues that is the reality.

But you felt the need to address it personally to me ?? If I was inclined I'd suggest that may be slanderous

Then complain to your club/GUI and stop derailing a thread where someone wanted help.

From a handicap allocation point of view your handicap secretary will input the 3 cards into the system and the system will propose a handicap based on those. Normally that is what you will be allocated but in some cases a former handicap may be taken into a/c as well.

Your right of course, it would also be the best place for the op to look for info related to handicaps.

Unfortunately the first half decent score you bring in, you'll be branded a bandit and be accused of cheating by moving to a different club and intentially inflating your handicap. It's the automatic reaction of a growing section of amature golfers these days, down to jealousy of anyone else who just happens to catch a break and take a prize in a weekend comp.

I dont know if that will happen, last time when i gave up golf for a few years the club gave me a 6 handicap, the handicap sectary gave me a call and we talked about history asked was i ok with the 6 ? think i had a couple of 80 somethings and one in the 70's
Id imagine it will be same situation, i last played in 2015 gave up in spring, im sure when give them a brief history they' ll give a similar handicap again but i just wont have the time to be competitive

Nothing could be further from the truth, unfortunately this kind of ill informed opinion is the result of confusing banter with reality, and seems to be becoming more prevalent, but remains untrue.

OP contact your HC sec about the requirements for gaining a HC, it's a straight forward process.

This is best advice and we can leave it at that.
