Size of excavator to pick up an empty 20ft container? (approx 2000kg)

I'd say 12 tonne minimum with the bucket off. Any smaller than that might be fit for the weight but containers are high and you will need the hitch in the middle to lift it properly

Not a hope a 12t would lift 2 tonne safely. 20t and you'll get away fine.

Thinking about it since I'd probably get away with dragging it with one corner on the ground. I was thinking a 13 ton should do that?

Wouldnt a 3.5 t telehandler not shift it handily and safely or is the ground only suitable for an excavator

So there's your answers... 3.5, 12, 13 and 20 Tonne...

Contact a hire co/supplier. They have the lifting data for each machine readily available.

3.5 ton will lift 3.4 ton at a 0.5m center from the back of the forks, boom in. Hasn't a hope of lifting a 2 ton container.

Getting an excavator anyway so might as well see what people think.

Going to go wit a 13 ton and drag it. 20 ton will be too big for the site

Only mentioned it as ive easily moved a good few porta cabins 18x12ft using a 1233 manitou
With chains and the forks off figured theyed be a similar weight thereabouts.
