Thanks for sharing. Its a very interesting read. Quite a number of failings and compounded issues resulting in the accident.

Very sad for all those involved.

So instead of entering the the manoeuvre at a minimum of 500ft AGL, the pilot elected to enter at 185ft.

You couldn't make it up. What a waste of life.

    From the BBC.....
'Police hope to send files to CPS before inquest'

We have been waiting some time for this report and it will take us some time to review. Our progress has been dependent on this final report and as a result of the ruling in the High Court, much of the material contained in it has not been seen by the investigation team until now.
We hope to do everything we can to submit a file of material to the CPS in advance of the pre-inquest review on June 20."

It is possible that both the pilot and the air show organisers may be prosecuted for manslaughter. A decision that will be made by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

Yes, in the UK anyway. This morning on the BBC the reporters were taking of of the possibility of increasing further the distance between the aircraft, the audience and major roads. It might be a while. June 20 will be the pre-inquest where everyone involved is introduced. There they should set a date for the full inquest.

The AAIB report should have focused solely on the causes of the accident, not the results on the ground.

Unfortunately it seems that pressure has been applied to ensure that they found 'contributory factors' that laid the groundwork for more CAA-led regulations. How was it contributory that the pilot was performing a manoeuvre over a road or uncontrolled spectators? Would it magically not have crashed had he been over the sea? It's like saying the village of Lockerbie was contributory to the loss of PAA103.

    I disagree.

This accident resulted in the deaths of members of the public. That's an entirely unacceptable situation and how it came about that an entertainment event involving old fighter jets managed to kill people who had no connection to the event has to be examined in full.

It's not exactly an unforseeable event for a 1950s fighter to crash - one look at crash statistics from when these planes were in service would make that very clear.

The location of the display and the proximity of busy roads had already been flagged up previously for this location, but the decision was made to go ahead anyway.
