Have 5k to spend on a new 7 seater. Have had a bad experience with a previous zafira which was just z money pit. Been asking recommendations and all different opinions. Buy an s-max, buy another zafira, don't buy this but a galaxy, no, stay away from them and buy a vw. Leaning towards an s-max but how reliable are they, pros and cons?

5k might not get you a decent S-Max though. Look at the Mazda 5 too.

We had a S-Max 1.8 diesel for 5 years and it was bulletproof, never an issue, loads of room with the back two seats down and like a van if you drop all the seats and need to move something big. We sold it earlier this year for €8k with 137kms on her and she was a 09 so you can guide your budget from that

Well, it was a lot of car, FSH and a private sale so I thought at onset I'd get more but Brexit killed second hand values here, we got her because of the 3 kids, buggys etc and as they've got bigger we ironically sized down to an EV as the SMax was just overkill

Petrol or diesel? Petrols are uber reliable but there are alot of question marks around the reliability of the Mazda 2.0 diesel engine so I'd avoid the diesel.
