I'll give this a go - only saw the occasional Prime Suspect back in the day I have to admit.

Good, tightly scripted drama. It looks more genuinely authentic to 1973 than the other 1973-themed cop drama, Life on Mars.

Now, don't get me wrong, I loved Life On Mars and in fact have Season 2 on DVD. The soundtrack was epic but it always looked like the early 1970s as seen through a 2000s perspective. There's no loud, boorish DCI Gene Hunt here, nor a blatantly sexist, racist and homophobic DS Ray Carling, but the institutional sexism in the show is very obvious in the first 15 mins.

The actress who plays a young Jane Tennyson is well cast. She is good and has the right mix of fresh young WPC who obeys (often sexist) orders but rises above her rank to show initiative in a murder case she gets drawn into.

Overall, very good. OK - I wasn't yet born in 1973 but it feels like the real deal.:)

This was up to Episode 3 last thursday on be3 last week which was shown 5 days later tonight on ITV/UTV but it is not showing any programme for this Thursday on be3. What's the story?

Wrong, you saw it last Thursday at either 9pm on UTV/ITV or at 10pm on TV3.

TV3 repeats it on Sunday nights and UTV/ITV repeats it on Tuesday nights.

Both channels have episode 4 on this Thursday at the usual times.

I've been following this too (was a Prime Suspect fan first time around) - I think it's one of the better 'prequels'
I noticed on the last episode that the director is David Caffrey - who also directed Love/Hate.
