I'm trying to hire a car in Manchester for 2 days but I think all the firms are looking for a credit card as apposed to a debit card(which I have),is there any car hire company operating out of Manchester airport that takes a debit card, thanks in advance.

They all take debit cards. My wife hired one from Enterprise two weeks ago with a debit card.

    United Kingdom

The estimated cost of the rental plus a deposit of 200 GBP to 1000 GBP (determined by the size of the vehicle) will be taken by credit or debit card at the time of rental. The credit or debit card must be in the name of the renter. Note: Not all locations accept debit cards. To find out if a location will accept a debit card, please contact them directly.

You're better off contacting the desk yourself OP, debit cards for car rentals is very hit and miss. I also assume you've had your license over 2 years - if not be careful as Enterprise were about the only ones who would rent to me during my first two years driving.

Last thing to note, buying excess insurance from a third party is usually cheaper than doing it even for a few days from the rental place.
