Check up donedeal for prices. Reasonable few for sale for as low as 250e/hd I'll admit, very tempted to pickup some jex myself.

How would jex fit in with friesians? Would they be lost in the parlour between big friesians?

They'll fight their corner and punch well above their weight.

But will you have to extend your hands to reach them? If the parlour is adjusted to suit friesians the jerseys will be too far away from the pit.

Sure you could get a decent calved heifers for double that and a bit extra, that will be generating income straight away.

Sold a few for 400e. Most lads only willing to pay 350. Average age 3wks.You need to find the right customer. I could have held tough and looked for more but I was tight on space and had enough to do

yes, you will need to squeeze in an extra big cow to shove them together.they will stretch to reach the meal . I have 3 ft centres here and its too wide, too much room to move.

Milking 5000 litres with good solids, would be better than waiting 2 years to get the first drop of milk out of them.

I hope no heifer ends up without meal 2 milkings in a row ha. 19 in a row extreme, 16 more like it, and I'd expect them to be settled down in 2 or 3 weeks and all one space per heifer.

And another 1200€ to rear. I hope ye do get the 500€ but what you value them at and what they're worth are very different
Heifers are 190/220 ebi here and not genotyped no way would I get 500€ for them at 5 weeks

Can I ask where you get genotyping done, can you get it done at Enfer with same sample used for bvd or is it a hair sample from tail? Do you do all heifer calves and what info do you get back ie does it just give an ebi figure or does it break down the different traits?

Mahoney, I've sold heifers every year and no one asks me about ebi, they take one look at the animal and I show them my milking cows and that's the end of it. But I don't think your price is outrageous as you've an excellent herd on figures.

Slightly off topic, but, do these high ebi ho/fr bulls breed smaller cows? Only reason I ask is I have friesian bullocks here from 2 farms. One man is all ebi and the other man has no faith whatsoever in it and uses the aAa system to choose bulls for breeding replacements. Both pedigree herds. The high ebi bullocks are a good bit behind the aAa bullocks in size and in general are not as well shaped or as long as the aAa ones. Also the aAa man would have a much higher output cow than the high ebi man has.
    Opinions on these observations appreciated!

Purely down to the bigger guys bullocks been breed for type/size, a lot of the 1st calvers here are towering over their own dams, would be a good 9 inches to over a foot taller in some extreme cases, simply because these heifers would be off high milk/type bulls that would be low ebi

These aAa bullocks are not giraffes jay. They're a lovely balanced bullock with a good spring to the rib and very deep chest, not unlike the British friesian of years gone by whereas the high ebi ones are alot shorter and just small.
From what I know of aAa, it's got very little to do with type it's more about balance.
