    Hi All,

Driving past the airport this morning I noticed the Orbis MD-10 parked on the west apron, I hadn't realised that its arrived already. It got me thinking, I'm booked for a tour on Sunday, and remember the booking page saying that I'd receive an email confirming my registration, however; this hasn't been received yet?

Does anyone else who's going have email confirmation yet?

PS, This is my first thread... go easy:D

If you return here again http://irl.orbis.org/pages/flying-eye-hospital-ie it looks like it is currently booked out?

I got the email half an hour ago if that helps.

Problem solved. I made a typo in the email address when registering. Thankfully it has now been resolved.

The shock I got when RTE news told me it was a DC-10!

It's an MD11 is it not?

Even more confusing - it's an MD-10, which is a Boeing reconditioned DC-10 with a glass cockpit.

    Still following?

Ah I've heard of that actually, allows them to operate with 2 flight crew instead of 3.

So it was originally a DC-10? Didn't actually know that MD-10s could be converted DC-10s, always thought they were just an updated version (by McDonnell Douglas)

This was a 1973-build DC-10 and it appeared in Ireland frequently in the 1970s in pax service with its first operator, Trans International (later renamed Transamerica).

Does anyone know were to go for the tour? I have mine booked in the morning but the email I received isn't clear

Go to the Cityjet Hangar – follow the road around the back of the airport (turn right at the main entrance to the airport, then first left) then keep left until you see it. There's overflow parking at The Boot Inn – that's where I had to park.

I enjoyed the tour, though I would say that it fell short of what I'd hoped it would be. The email said two hours, but some fifty-five minutes of that was waiting in the hangar for our tour to actually start. The time on board the aircraft felt quite rushed, and there was no opportunity to see the cockpit at all – while the door was open I was instructed to keep moving when I tried to poke my head in there.

Thanks. That's a shame, it's the cockpit I'm looking forward to the most. Either way I'm sure it will be an enjoyable morning.

    Thank you for the directions

You should have asked. Spent 10/15 minutes in the cockpit taking pics, touching stuff and talking to the Captain and then went to catch up with the tour, which tbh I had no interest in. Probably four of us there two in the cockpit at a time.

I did. I was told to move!

I got a pic of the cockpit, but I didn't get to go inside it... although it was a great tour and I really enjoyed myself... I would have liked it to have been a bit longer so I could have enjoyed the aircraft more but all in all it was a great morning

Is the aircraft still here ? If so, when is it schedule to depart?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,907 ✭✭✭Captain_Crash
