I was wondering if anyone who has bought appliances for house lately can provide some advice. I’ve just bought a new house and have to get all the appliances for it: integrated dishwasher, fridge/freezer, induction hob, double oven & microwave.

Is there any good deals in shops going – where did you go to buy? Any difference between going to north/ikea. Where would you suggest?

Also is there any brands that should be avoided?

You'd need to give a rough estimate of how much you have to spend - there is a large range of prices within each appliance category.

My general advice to you would be to ask friends and family, get advice on boards as you are doing now but have your research done before you go to any electrical shops as the only thing the sales assistants care about is their commission. General practice is that they are liable to say anything to close the deal - Beko appliances are made in Germany, brand xxx is rubbish and should be avoided, etc. etc. Beware of old brand names now masquerading as quality 'heritage' brands - Nordmende, Blomberg etc. they are now made in China and the quality is nothing like what it used to be when they were manufactured by the original company.

And remember - one person's bad experience does not mean that you should avoid a particular brand. Listen to what people have to say but one person's mishap and sh1tty experience with a useless dealer or a repairman who never showed up on time does not means that all brand xxx appliances should be off your list.

Bosch/Siemens is a good choice for any of the kitchen stuff and if you can stretch the budget a bit, the Neff ovens with the slideaway doors are very good.

I'd avoid anything from Creda, Indesit and Hotpoint brands after the dryer fire fiasco and rubbish aftercare to rectify.
