No way I'm in shock at this news! In the words from one of his iconic roles "Game over man! Game over!"

Oh my God. Genuinely shocked. That's awful. :(

Big fan of his. His performance in Frailty was excellent.

And I know he was annoying, but I loved Hudson!

Trivia: I think he was the only actor to feature in Terminator, Alien and Predator franchises.

    RIP.

While his choice of roles didn't always appeal to me, he always came across as a man who just genuinely loved being on screen which is an all too rare quality.

    Quite surprised at this.

    Sad news this.

Thought his best rols was in "One False Move" where he played the small town sheriff.

Remember him narrating a documentary about JFK giving a speech in Texas 1963.

A very young Bill Paxton was there that day.

Sad to hear about his death, he played a small part in the cult film "Last Supper", brilliant in it as the Iraq war vet. RIP Bill!!!

One of my favourites is A Simple Plan - I hadn't realised he'd been in so many big films.
    Too young to die.

One False Move sticks out when I think of Bill Paxman (seen in it in the old Lighthouse on Abbey St).

And of course Chet in Weird Science.

    Rest in peace.

I was always greatly entertained by Paxton, with True lies in particular a highlight. Took me a while to cope his role in Nightcrawler so he was gifted in that sense also.

Have been meaning for awhile to sit down and watch Big Love. Will do so now.

    RIP Bill

    James Cameron released this statement;

"I've been reeling from this for the past half hour, trying to wrap my mind and heart around it. Bill leaves such a void. He and I were close friends for 36 years, since we met on the set of a Roger Corman ultra-low budget movie. He came in to work on set, and I slapped a paint brush in his hand and pointed to a wall, saying "Paint that!" We quickly recognized the creative spark in each other and became fast friends. What followed was 36 years of making films together, helping develop each others projects, going on scuba diving trips together, watching each others kids growing up, even diving the Titanic wreck together in Russian subs. It was a friendship of laughter, adventure, love of cinema, and mutual respect. Bill wrote beautiful heartfelt and thoughtful letters, an anachronism in this age of digital shorthand. He took good care of his relationships with people, always caring and present for others. He was a good man, a great actor, and a creative dynamo. I hope that amid the gaudy din of Oscar night, people will take a moment to remember this wonderful man, not just for all the hours of joy he brought to us with his vivid screen presence, but for the great human that he was.

The world is a lesser place for his passing, and I will profoundly miss him
    ."

Never really got any traction over here, but I really liked him in the HBO series Big Love. He made a character that most would find repulsive seem very sympathetic.

The look of incredulity at Tom Cruise at certain points in Edge of Tomorrow (Wikipedia) is priceless. He just had one of those faces.

    Sad to hear of this.

    Genuinely upset about this.

Only watched Aliens last weekend and he was such a stand out in that movie. Loved Twister and True Lies as well.

God speed, and thanks for everything, Bill.

Growing up I would have always rented a movie that had Bill or Michael Biehn in it.

Navy Seals, Stripes, Streets of Fire, Weird Science, Commando, Slipstream, Next of Kin, One False Move, Boxing Helena, Vertical Limit

Just looking back on all the classic 80's and 90's B videos let alone all the blockbusters I would have rented that Bill was in he really was a huge part of my video viewing teenage years.

    RIP

Heart Surgery, must have been major as he suffered a stroke because of issues that happened because of the operation. Poor Bill had emailed Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman that he was nervous about the surgery.

Watched the interview with the cast of Aliens at Comicon for the 30th anniversary and Paxton came across as such a funny likable guy who was as much a fan of the movie as anyone else. Such a shame he is gone. RIP

He Directed and Starred in the film Frailty which is a terrific film but I don't think it's that well known. It stars Matthew McConaghey as well and it's well worth a watch, it's really creepy stuff.
