Where else to stay in Florida besides Orlando?

We're heading to Florida in April. I've booked a week's accomodation in Orlando to do the theme parks & shopping for week 1.
Nothing booked for week 2 yet. Any suggestions on where else we should stay & what else we should see?
    Miami? The Keys? Tampa?

I'm open to all suggestions & would welcome recommendations based on experience. Thanks.

Miami has gotten very expensive over the last couple of years and unless you are into hitting the clubs, I wouldn't bother,. . If you want to hit the beach for a week, I would recommend St. Petes or Clearwater on the Gulf Coast.

Keys are lovely to visit but not all that much to do for a week, Very commercialised also.
Alternatively, you could stay in Lauderdale by the Sea - about 20 miles north of Miami, perfect weather in April - low humidity but in the high 20's.

I agree with the post above. The Naples/Marco Island area is very nice too, and from there you can see the Everglades.
If you stayed closer to Miami, Key West is easy to get to for a day trip, or stay overnight and take in some of the other keys along the way.

Miami is fun, but I've found you have to splash the cash and stay somewhere good to have maximum benefit.

The Keys are lovely and can be very charming. We also stayed at a spot called Cedar Key once that we really liked

We went in October. Visited Orlando, Miami, Naples and Clearwater.
We weren't blown away by Miami, we found it expensive and tacky, and we were expecting more from Clearwater.
For relaxation and beauty Naples can't be beaten. Gorgeous part of the world.

Miami is a waste of time unless you want to spend a fortune and go clubbing, Key West is 3 hours from Miami and isn't cheap either. The East and West coast of Florida are totally different from each other. Sarasota (Siesta key) or Naples would be my pick. Clearwater is too commercialised. It all depends on what you want to do. Chilli out and relax on the beach I would say West coast, Partying or nightlife id say Key West.

Key West can be very peaceful if you stay off Duval, although small, there are other places.
