    Hi All,

I'm a software developer and I have personal subscriptions to several development kits and training sites, many of which have VAT applied to them.

Is there a tax credit or similar available for professional tools or training which you purchase yourself?

There are Flat Rate Expenses, but these are for specified professions. I don't think software development is one.

As for the subscriptions, you could claim for them, but you would have to argue a case that you could not perform the duties of your employment without having paid the subs. Like say a Doctor can't perform his duties as a doctor if he is not registered with the Medical Council (off the top of my head, don't know if this is true, just using it for the sake of an example)
