    Hi all,

Posting here to let people know about a job scam on Gumtree.

In late January 2017, I applied to the following ad on Gumtree:
Oh. Can't contribute to the community with links because I'm a new user. Oh well.

    Looks convincing, doesn't it?
I didn't hear back for 2 weeks. Then I got this:

    "Hello

Thank you for applying for the position as posted on Gumtree. Will be offering you an alternative or similar position with a friend whom I can give you a 100% will hire you.

    Herewith his contact;

    Names: Ray Choudhury
    E-Mail: experiencem4 at gmail.com

I have not sent your CV to him because I will need your consent but I guaranteed him you are exactly what he needs. Write that email for further information on the job.

    Thank you!"

The email came from this address: letsgo at deliveryman.com, Ray Thorn is the name that came up.
100% hire me? My "something is wrong" detector was beeping at this stage. I looked up both names and both emails on Gmail and found no trace of them.

The short story is we e-mailed back and forward, and I got the position; €1,800 a month working as a remote admin assistant and running errands for him in Galway. My first errand was to cash a cheque from one of his debtors and "Pay a list of creditors". An Ulster Bank bank draft arrives for €1,200.

Ulster Bank tell me the serial on the bank draft is "out of sequence" and probably fake, this was over the phone as I didn't have time to go into a branch.

So there you are. Not sure what the scam would have been if I got in touch with Ray The Scammer, maybe then the bank draft bounced he'd have asked me to cover it with my own money. Whatever it is, stay clear of that ad!

The bank draft (Sorry about potato quality):
Oh. Can't contribute to the community with links because I'm a new user. Oh well.

The email back-and-forwards is long, if you want to see it PM me c:

    Edit: "€1,800 a month"

Ah the old bouncing draft trick.

Yeah, they're stolen/fake drafts, but it takes a week or two for the bank to spot them and reverse them.

The guys keep sending you drafts on a daily basis with larger and larger amounts as "a sign of our trust".

Eventually they send you a huge draft and tell you to take your salary out of it.

The next day the drafts start bouncing and you're out silly amounts of money and answering lots of embarrassing questions from the Gardai.
