A lie told often enough becomes the truth, good quote for a thread on Meme and social media.

After reading the thread on the cost of the children hospital( full of wild generalisations ) and an entirely factually incorrect bit of information in a Facebook post I received this morning got me thinking is there any way to stop this in the age of social media.

I went through a phase of correcting and or challenging incorrect information on any social media platform I used, but got fed up with that because people believe what they want to believe.

Keep up the fight but pick your battles. Ive family members who will share any kind of sh1te on facebook. I don't argue with them because I don't want to fall out with them. Point out generalizations on boards but back them up with hard facts. Even if the poster who was generalising, doesnt get the message, 5 other posters might learn something.

Fake news. Exaggerated opinions. Biased views.
Anyone who gets their news from social media probably deserves to be brainwashed, but should forfeit their right to vote.

I read piece on the Daily Mail earlier that said all of the news on social media is true, so I don't know what your problem is.

I saw a post on Facebook about nurses should be paid more than politicians.

I pointed out that 80% of elected representatives (councillors) in this country are on about €16,000 per year and asked if line nurses would be happy with that.

Before social media, I stayed away from idiots and didn't feel the need to correct them.

I like to try to keep the same approach these days.

It's never been as easy for idiots to broadcast their poorly informed (if informed at all) opinions or ideas.
