Cheapest window solution

Need to replace windows but it's a short term fix. The ones there are all single glazing and approx 25/30 years old.

The next 3/5 years we will hopefully gut the whole house, do the usual knock walls and extend so I really don't want to spend a fortune. The front door also needs replacing!!

Is there a cheap way around it or should I really just hold off?

The dearer part of this is the labour. You'll only save penny's going for single glazed

Thanks for that. I'm assuming PVC is the cheapest route to go though?

We've just been through similar - our place has misted old aluminium double-glazing that's well past it's useful lifetime. Having stretched myself to get the initial deposit and other work done, it'll be at least 5 years before I can save the 10-15k we'll need to replace the properly so we looked into other options and tbh, just decided to live with what's there in the meantime. Even the cheapest PVC double-glazing is going to cost 3/4k and I couldn't justify spending that on a stop-gap...
