    Hi,

About 6 years ago I was with Tesco mobile for a while. I wasn't very happy with them, can't remember exactly why- think support wasn't great & never easy going abroad.

Anyway, they have a very good deal currently:
    Huawei P9 free
    2 year contract
    €30 pm
    500 mins
    500 texts
    15GB data.

Just wondering what people's experiences of them are nowadays?
    Cheers,
    Pa

they're on 3's network, which I've just left because the data was so unreliable.

No 4G and no news of it coming at any time in the future while being on a contract would be a problem for some people.

I started that contract last month and my wife started it back in November and so far it's okay, but to be fair, we're both in the greater Dublin area 99% of the time and don't stream much video via our phones while out and about.

I've noticed maybe three or four times in the past month that loading a browser page will grind to a halt and instead of 3G it'll be HSDPA, but turning my mobile data off and on solves it. When I ask the missus how she finds it she's delighted but she wouldn't be a heavy user and, honestly, her last phone was on its last legs for a long time so just having a working phone is a novelty to her.

For me, it's no issue at all, but as I say, I'm not that heavy a user (when I was with Meteor I would use a max 7GB of my allowance per month) and I'm in what should be a good coverage area. If you're planning to use your phone as a hotspot or anything it might not be suitable.

HSDPA is a version of 3G that is faster than normal 3G.

I've been with them for 5 years and aside from a couple of times the network has been completely down for a couple of hours I've never had a problem. The 3G is fine for me and can stream videos but I am on WiFi nearly all the time. Never had a problem going away but I occasionally buy local sim cards when on a longer holiday to save money because my phones are always unlocked.

You'd probably save money buying the phone outright and going contract free, then you'd get all the stuff you've listed for only 15 a month. If it wouldn't hurt to front the cash, that is.

I picked up one of their special bill-pay offers a few years back and am almost trapped now as €10/month covers all my needs especially as clubcard points are 3x when used for tesco mobile vouchers so my account is always ~€100 in credit. Only really problem I've had is that they don't support roaming in South Africa for some strange reason.

No complaints to be honest, 4g would be nice to have but with wifi at work & home it doesn't bother me too much.

I don't think the phone is cheaper anywhere upfront. In contract the phone works out at €360 (€30 * 24- €15 * 24).
