Importing / buying / acceptting into your home prescription meds without license

What does the law say about buying prescription meds for personal use, without prescription? What are the possible penalties? What's likely to happen?

To clarify because I'm sure it will impact on how lenient they are, take as an example hair loss medication with no recreational / abuse potential.

also as a side question howdo they define what's reasonable to assume is for personal use? Say if I were to be in possession of 200 days supply, would they not believe this is for personal use?

From the Garda Press Office; "It’s a criminal offence to be in possession of prescription drugs without a prescription. Those who accept delivery of packages containing controlled drugs from online pharmacies, may expect a visit from a Garda with a search warrant"

What particularly bothers me is how difficult it is to find information on this seeing as so many people are buying prescription meds without having much idea of what the consequences are. Just take a look at this http://www.hpra.ie/docs/default-source/publications-forms/information-leaflets/dangers-bpmo_web.pdf?sfvrsn=2 the entire thing's dedicated to the untrustworthy nature of the drugs which most people ordering online won't give a toss about, then they specifically say the people selling are breaking the law while ommitting the most important part, that being in possession of is also illegal.

Please don't post anything other than legal discussion, not sure how touchy the mods might get if someone promotes committing an unlawful and possibly criminal act. But equally don't derail my thread by getting preachy and saying it's wrong or stupid, that's not relevant.

Damn I've just thought of more questions. Is it not illegal until I accept it into my home or is the act of buying itself illegal?

Also say if I were in a situation where customs seize my package while ordering prescription meds online, then I get sent letters from customs followed by Irish Medical Association which I believe is the case for these issues, where's the evidence that they'd have that someone else didn't mail it to me? Where's the proof of purchase? As far as I'm aware there's no proof of anything unless I sign for the package and I'm in possession of it when they come with a search warrant.

    Mod
    1. Buying prescription meds without a prescription?
Regardless of the correct dose or quantity
Regardless of whatever else your are taking, or whatever else you are taking or suffering from?
    Not a good idea, imho

    2. Obvious breach of relevant legislation. Contrary to forum rules re legal advice and public policy
