Are the energy saving bulbs in Dealz good?

    Hi

Moved into new place, there are some spotlights, and what seem like normal bulbs.

A friend has recommended getting LED energy saving bulbs in Dealz, and not to buy them in Ikea as they are more expensive but not any better.

Is this good advice? What should I look for? Someone else mentioned we would not be able to get LEDs for both types, not sure which they said there were no LEDs for.

Maybe there are bulbs other than LEDs that are the way to go?

    Why is a good wattage?

I have three fitted in a 3 way chandelier type light since last summer and they are still perfect so far and are being used every evening from 5 to 12.

I tried fitting an LED spotlight but the fitting seems completely different to what I bought, it has pins like in the image below. Can anyone confirm that this is what I need to look for OR is it that part of it has broken off in the socket/port? Please see images.

Also, in the last two images, these are the bathroom lights, the bulbs in place are right up in the ceiling, is there a way to remove these, as to fit replacement LEDs, without breaking them?

<Mod snip: no need to repost>

Commonly (although incorrectly) referred to as MR16 lamps - these are technically GU5.3 and are ELV rather than LV. I suspect you have purchased GU10 lamps by mistake?

the IKEA ones say they're good for 20000 hours, the Dealz bulbs say 1000 hours on the box.

Thanks for the info on bulbs.

I will order the correct ones, and check the hours first.

www.futureled.ie has been recommneded to me..

Any idea about the bulb that is far in the ceiling in that fitting? Please see the picture I posted. I do not even want to wiggle it in case I break something - until I know the correct method to remove.

Looks like MR16 can't be sure, they are 12V a d push in and pull out

Sorry for late reply, thanks for all the info so far.

Ikea seems the way to go here, at least if I can get them in Carrickmines, which I probably can. Unfortunately they do not seem to stock MR16 GU 5.3 bulbs, and looking on futureled.ie these are 3.49 a pop. I was hoping they would be more in line with Dealz/Ikea pricing, is there anywhere else recommended?

Also, some of the 5W normal bulbs I have around the place say non-dimmable on the box, but I just read on future-led that their bulbs 'should not be used with' dimmer switches. I had thought the non-dimmable warning was just because they would not work properly if one attempted to dim them. Is there a fire risk in even using them? I rent, so do not really want to take the dimmer off the wall to replace with a switch...

Ikea seem to have them in Japan, just not here:

I've 3 compact florescent 7 watt lamps in a centre light I bought in deals 10 years ago in Belfast. 3 for 1 pound. Curley lamp, instant switching , best CPF lamp I ever bought

Don't know about the LEDs though.

I'd stick with known brands with a min of about 4/5 euro a lamp at the moment anyway.

I was up early this morning and put the 4 spotlights in the kitchen on and was stunned by the brightness of just the 3ws. It is in fact going to be too bright at times, so hoping it is possible to get cooker light LEDs.

Where do they save the energy? Every time I open one to extract some there's nought but spidery lookin' silicon things inside!
