Interested to hear any resources or advice.
    What cameras people use.

I'm also interested in any advice on the cheapest point and shoot with raw files capabilities.

I generally use a 24-70 lens for street photography on a Nikon DSLR. The mirrorless cameras are probably better and less bulky for street shots, just go out there and take the shots you want without annoying anyone. Smile and a bit of banter when taking the shot is better than sneaking the shot I think.

I have used Canon G9 and G12 as well as Olympus XZ-1

There are quite a few small bridge cameras which have good glass, manual controls and record RAW.

This topic has come up quite a bit in the past, definitely worth doing a quick search of the photography forum to find those threads as some great advice was given.

Most modern compacts also save in RAW.

Cheers for that, like you I'm here over 12 years so well aware how the system works. As my question involves technology I though I would ask again. After searching for street photography the previous post shows as over 2 years ago and the next one 7 years ago.

Please forgive me if you think I'm repeating the topic, it's not my intention.

Maybe I should have asked a more specific question, what is the absolute cheapest point and shoot you have come across with RAW FILE capabilities.

    Thanks again.

I don't know what your budget is , but there is some nice options in there.

Canon Powershot and Panasonic Lumix are really nice cameras.

If you can pick up a decent Canon G10 on ebay, you could end up with a good piece of kit for a good price.

Even with some very basic canon point and shoots, you can use CHDK firmware to get some type of raw output, although mightnt gain much for small sensor cameras. But if you have an old canon camera might be worth playing with

Yes that's more like it. I'm looking at a very cheap option around my neck just to have ready. Apart from the Casio in the link above I don't seem to see any native raw compact cameras with raw files. Under 150 euros.

The search function on boards.ie is really terrible.

So get the Casio. Or else do a better job searching online yourself.

Well aware of that, as I said I searched. My main interest was the hardware.

Lmao. Thanks for that, I had in fact searched before I posted. so maybe you may wish to be less presumptuous. Or maybe just be you..

I had come across the same links mentioned above.

Or am I missing something ? Are you simply trolling.

Apart from the Casio. The Panasonic TZ60 is very well rated. Might be a bit out of your price range new, but try and find a used one.

I have the TX70, and the RAW files are very good.
Camera itself is small and light. Boots up really fast, and the EVF is actually very good on it.
Brilliant for throwing in your pocket.. :)

appreciated, not a fan of Casio cameras. But will look at the Panasonic. Thanks

Nah, not trolling. Just being direct.

No, you will find as I previously stated you where being presumptuous, you assumed I hadn't googled anything, which wasn't the case. As stated I had googled and came up with the links previously posted by others. I mistakenly assumed I could ask an additional question and get a reply..

My advice to you is to not own it lol the facts stand by themselves irrespective of your views on it.

Thanks you for your input, its very helpful ;) you're an asset to the forum and I might add, your mentality is the reason I seldom frequent the photographic forum. I had spend many years on the forum when I joined first. :)

It's sounded like asking other people to do your work and research for you.
You asked a question and got answers based on people experiences. Then you asked for more.
If it was me, I'd just do my own search for cameras in my price range and then check which ones had raw capabilities.

Apologies if my mentality keeps you away from the forum. I'm often as helpful as I can be when people ask questions.

it sounded like ? again with the assumptions.

As I have stated I had done some research, I reached out for some advice, isn't that what boards is about ? I'm assuming you're an adult, I ask as the concept of you feeling the need to "virtually" chastise me (In the wrong) is juvenile.
If you thought I hadn't done any research then why not move ? hence my trolling comment. I consider you unhelpful and trolling, you don't see it ;) good for you.

Thank you again for your pop psychology and ability to read the situation based on your feelings and zero facts, you're a credit to the online community :)

I didn't chastise you. It was clear you hadn't done much research. You seem overly sensitive, perhaps that's why you don't frequent the photography forum that much.
Best of luck finding your camera and with your street photography.

Full of assumptions all based on lack of facts, "It was clear to you now that I hasn't done much research." what is that based on lol its juvenile to make unfounded assumptions.

"You seem overly sensitive, perhaps that's why you don't frequent the photography forum that much."

I have explained why I don't frequent the forum, its trolls like yourself.

As for the luck, thank you, I know its heartfelt from you, as a qualified professional with 20+ years commercial experience/training I'm sure luck wont come into it much :)

Those questions are rhetorical, only because you haven't in fact posted anything to help with the questions I outlines originally, but feel free to respond off topic again.

The camera is now secured as is the triggering mechanism so I'm all set.

"You didn't provide any facts, so I had to assume"

your first response sums it up for me, as I have stated you are trolling, you are not actually helping answer the question that I posted, which I might add is fully resolved. an intelligent, non combative non trolling individual would in the event of no facts, as you confirmed you hadn't any, NOT MAKE ASSUMPTIONS.. lol no bells ringing how stupid that statement you made sound to you ?

as for your inane question "professional what ?" lets rule out plumber, as we are discussing photography on a photographic forum.

You are trolling, you are not being helpful to the issue in hand. :)

"What camera and triggering mechanism did you end up getting? " Take your own advice, use the search function for boards, after all, as you stated the answers are already apparently there if you look :)

I'm sure we both have much more important things to do with our time at this stage..

Let me thank you for the exorbitant amount of time you have taken to NOT actually help, its truly appreciated. you are a wise man and an asset to the community :) That's from my heart and I really mean it. Thanks again...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,538 ✭✭✭sunny2004

"No, without facts you have to assume things."

I rest my case. Not sure what assumptions without facts you will come up with. I consider you juvenile, as I have mentioned more than once before.

Thank you again for your outstanding help, you are a true asset to the community.

He deleted his post, referencing autism spectrum as a possible issue for me...

Here is the post he deleted

Effects has just posted the following in the "STREET PHOTOGRAPHY general advice." thread, in the Photography forum:

"I'm starting to think you're just on the autistic spectrum somewhere.

Fact is, you didn't say you had done any research on cameras yourself.
Fact is you didn't say you had looked through previous posts on the forum.
Fact is you said you had only done a boards search for topics on street photography.
Fact is I told you the search function doesn't work very well on boards.
Fact is you're looking for a way to creep on people and take their photograph without them knowing.
Fact is you're a troll deliberately trying to get a rise out of people trying to help you."

You won't get any more new post notifications until you visit the forum.

Here is a response to his facts.

I'm done with this juvenile trolling behaviour.

I clearly stated I had done research and came up with the same links supplied by another boardsie.
I also responded to say I had used the search function to find posts on the subject and cited dates of said posts.
I search for street photography because that is what I was looking for
the next one is isn't worth responding to, its a child like minded response to a genre of photography.
and finally ? what people, you are the issue, and like all trolls, you are simply trying to make out I'm trolling..

We are done my friend.. Autistic ? lol another one of your assumptions ?
