    Time for today's sports news.

Some rugby player has missed training because of a calf injury but is expected to make a complete recovery in time for an important upcoming match. A retired rugby player with 101 caps has endorsed his return to the playing field.

In GAA a long standing inter-county player has retired due to a persistent knee injury, his club has announced today. He debuted in 2005 wining lots of medals and captained his team to success in 2009. His team mates have wished him well in his retirement and thanked him for his services over the years.

A football club in England has confirmed the appointment of a new coach. The club have said the he is highly experienced and has a great track record. This news comes as no surprise as he has been widely tipped for the post since the sudden death of the previous coach who died from liver failure in November last.

Also in Football tensions have escalated between a team and management as the club was trounced by Bolton Wanderers at the weekend, the fourth successive defeat in as many weeks. Players are said to be unhappy with the managers appointment from the outset and a meeting of the club board and players has been scheduled for next week.

In other much less important individual sports news, a tennis players run of 15 consecutive titles came to an end at the weekend. Commentates are calling it the end of an era. A snooker player bowed out in the first round of the snooker world cup and has dropped out of the top 32 rankings in the world. It's uncertain whether he will make the cut for the next major event.

That's it for today's sports news. I'll be back tomorrow with more exciting sports news. Back to you, Aengus.

PS Is there anything more tedious, more boring, more predicable, than sports news. Day in, day out, 365 days of the year?
