I'm at the end of my tether with my current phone.
There is a constant deluge of pop-up adds (Tesco, Vodafone, Google Play mostly).
The phone screen freezes with increasing regularity and I get redirected to bizarre sites for no reason.
I've re-set the phone, I don't download apps, other than from the google store, tried various anti-virus apps and I've even started another gmail account, in case the previous account was compromised.
I've had the phone months and had this problem for ages now and had put the phone in a drawer for several weeks, but wanted to give it another chance as I love the phone.
But within hours of resetting it, the old problems returned and have gotten worse.
The phone is a Xiaomii RedNote 4 running MIUI 8 Global 8.0.1
I'll give anything a go to sort this, or if there's somewhere I can send it to, to be fixed, that'd be good too.

Phone actually froze twice just typing this.😠

Might work, but have you tried to root and flash a new ROM to it?

This is a problem with Chinese made devices. The malware basically came with your phone. It may be possible to remove it after you've done a reset but finding it is the problem.

As me_irl says wiping the phone with a new rom would solve the problem but if that's too complex for you you could after resetting the device delete as many apps as you can and reinstall them again through the official play store. That still might not work though, but it might too.

    Thanks guys.
I've tried uninstalling certain apps, but some seem locked in and the most you can do is Force Stop or disable.
Wouldn't have any experience of installing new ROM, but might give it a go, if nothing else works.

Is phone pre rooted? You could download a root checker app from app stores to check?

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Previous poster mentioned rooting your phone. Chinese phones can actually be easy to root and some come rooted. If that is the case then there is an app called 'system app remover'. You can then use that app to remove the apps that are locked. That's what it's for.

The apps you would want to delete first would be the inbuilt internet browser and any cache cleaning, internet search and security apps, ironically !
