How long does it take to get planning permission from sending in the application. On the Internet must information says 8 -12 weeks. But someone told me today it could take years in Meath at least 2 years. Could that be true.
PS The county would be Meath where I would be interested in receiving info on the time scale to receive planning permission.

    Officially 8 weeks.

But there's other statutory time frames such as a 4 week appeal period afterwards and then a 2 week notice to Building Control.

8 weeks for a decision and a further 4 weeks after that to get the final grant (assuming the decision is yes!)

The 2 years you were quoted is probably taking into account that a lot of prep work will be required and the council may say no to the first one or ask for a lot of additional information

Of course you may never get planning permission in which case you'd bite someone's arm off if 2 years worth of work would secure it!
