Such a trivial question!! But im at the point now of the bitty things leading up to my wedding in 6 weeks!! My bridesmaids are a chiffon pale blue, like the lighter blue colour in the dublin gaa jersey. The only tie the suit shop has for groomsmen is a different shade of blue, much more vibrant baby blue in satin (we are hiring the suits). Almost like the twitter symbol blue. Would this look weird? Or do the colours & materials have to match?

If it's really going to bug you you could buy ties instead of taking the ones the hire shop offers :)
I know it's an extra cost but it's an option.

The shop can do custom ties for €20 each (I need 2) but if these will look ok, I would go with the original ones. Anyone have any experience of seeing different shade of tie in a wedding? Dont mind that its not exact, prefer to not be too matchy but just wondering if the shade needs to be somewhat similar

I can barely remember what colour the bridemaids dresses were at most weddings i have attended!!!!

I don't think I can remember a single suit ever worn by the groomsmen, let alone the colour of their ties.

    You might be overthinking this.

I can't even remember the colour of the ties at my wedding! I would just go with a completely different blue instead of trying to match and failing. Make it obvious that they aren't supposed to match.

Would you go for a completely different colour tie for the groomsmen? Maybe match them to the flowers or something? I had my bridesmaids in sapphire blue for my wedding with cerise pink and white flowers, couldn't find ties to match the blue so put them in cerise pink ties instead and their buttonhole had cerise pink in it too. Got lots of compliments on it!

I really wouldn't worry. I had myself wound up over trying to match the groomsmens ties to the bridesmaids dresses, I even had my OH bring one of the dresses to his suit fitting to try match them up! In the end we went for a completely different shade closer to the colour of the flowers and it was grand....to be honest no one even notices and there is much more important things to be thinking about now on the run up to the big day :):)

My sister had exact same issue as you, bridesmaids were in pale blue chiffon dresses, struggled to get ties to match. She wound up finding pale blue woollen ties that matched pretty closely. I can ask her where she bought them if you like.

Or as previous posters have said, stay away from blue and match the flowers or something else!

Noone will really notice different shades of blue, my BMs are china blue I think its called, and I ordered page boy dickie bows off ebay in a close enough colour, groomsmen will be in a close enough colour aswell, not too stressed if they don't match, that whole ombre trend is in now anyways :) or as another poster said match them to something else?
The sapphire blue with pink sounds so lovely! those colours really complement each other! :)

What about pale gold or cream ties?

My groomsmen didn't match ties to the bridesmaids dresses. They wore grey cravat-style ties. My hubby wore a dark purple one, and my bridesmaids were in a kinda shimmery purple so while the colours were similar a tie the exact same colour would have looked a bit mad.

Another option I've seen done well is if the ties are a similar colour to the flowers. My cousin had sunflowers and the groomsmen wore navy suits and a yellow skinny tie.

My bridesmaids dresses are mauve, which is way too close to pink, I'm not going to give the guys pink ties so I'm not going to do the matchy thing.  As long as the colours compliment each other and nothing clashes I don't think it's a huge issue!

This made me laugh then I melted my brain trying to remember the ties at my wedding 10 months ago. I spent a good two minutes thinking about til I remembered my husband didn't wear a tie!! I have no idea what colour the best man wore.

This is a good idea, they'd go well with the blue!

Definitely would look great with a blue button hole!
