So after saying how great my galaxy s5 is it has now decided to slow down to a crawl from yesterday. Never taken from the otterbox case and kept up to date with all software updates etc.

What does a factory reset involve? Will I lose all texts, photos messages etc? Will it do anything to speed it up again?

I'm due an upgrade now anyway...Samsung S6, htc 10 and a few other phones for free or an S7 for €99...worth it or should I try the reset first?

No harm in trying a reset. It will wipe everything, so make sure you back up important stuff.

I use SMS backup and restore to back up all of my text messages, although I'm sure Samsung have their own solution. Photos should be backed up to google photos, dropbox or whatever.

Regarding your phone running slowly, does it have plenty of spare space? Have any apps updates recently, or you've installed a new app that could be causing this?

I would be holding off a month or two on an upgrade, because new devices normally come out March/April.

14.71 out of 16gb used. Deleted a heap of apps this morning that I rarely used and cleared out files and deleted photos, texts and videos that I don't need. Phone was working perfectly on Friday night but slowed right down on Saturday morning. I'll delete as much from it later and see if it helps. I'd hate to change it as it's been great.

Mine is the same but I know it's because I'm low or space. Also in fairness I have the phone over 2 years so due an upgrade. Going to go for S7.
