I was in Blackrock BMW about two weeks ago and it was empty but,it was lashing. I looked at a 2016 demo 218i coupe. It was an SE the most basic model with 3000 miles on it and the price on it was 39 950 ( no that's not a typo) A look through auto trader uk will confirm that you can buy a similar or better spec car for less. There are four or five 6 month old 218i's up at the moment for between 20 to 23 thousand sterling. The Vrt on these cars is about 5000 and you will lose maybe 3500? on the exchange rate but overall you can save a lot of money. The only problem I see is once you go for a bigger Engine (1.8, 2.0+) the vrt also goes up and will wipe out most of your saving

I too was in Joe Duffy 2 weeks ago and drove a 116D with auto gearbox, it was busier than I expected. Car was excellent, especially the auto box, but I won't buy a new diesel. They had no 2 series only an M2 in the showroom. Whilst they have stock 118i on the system with the 3.5K contribution to offset the 5.5k VRT (how I hate that Irish Tax), since then I am thinking a 120i will be a better car (more horse per tonne, 4 pot) , however it costs 45K with the options I want!

Looking at Autotrader UK, I managed to track down just 1 120i Auto in Silver........Will keep looking, some day my train will come in :)

You were mistaken, the basic 218iSE begins at €33,840. On The Road for the manual version.

We have a 116d in this house and my man has one too. Fantastic cars and the gearbox makes the car. I've an auto Volvo and it just clunks from gear to gear compared to the seamless BMW box. Still love my Volvo though!!
