I am trying to solve a problem with the driver side rear lights on my Cooper. firstly the passenger back lights work ok.The problem is on the driver side the only item working is the indicater light.I removed the light unit from the back of the car and did continuity on the circuit board and cleaned the contacts. All seemed ok but is still not working have NCT in a week any suggestions.I don't think it's an earth problem as the indicator is working.I have no circuit diagram so I'm a bit lost.Perhaps fuse?
    Thank you

I presume you tried replacing the bulbs?

After you've tried the bulbs check the earth, the indicator could be earthed separately or earthing through another circuit. It's simple & easy to check (and to fix if it is the problem). Always worth a look.

Yes replaced the bulbs, with regard to the earth it's a single plug which goes into the unit so the same earth is used for all lights. There is a module which controls the operation of the lights and it's very expensive so I hope it's not that which is causing the problem
it's a 2007 car and I think the unit could be 800~ 1000Euro and can only be programmed by a BMW agent,so big money.

If you have a 12 volt test light check the earths anyway, it'll take about 30 seconds & I've seen car systems find earths for themselves through other lights/circuits/whatever in unusual ways many times. On the off chance it is an earthing problem it is very easy & very cheap to fix.
