What's the missing pipe?

    My sister was complaing about a flapping noise on her car (1.2 diesel astra), a quick look under and see this chunk of pipe missing.
    i'm gonna go look for replacment tomorrow but exactly am i calling it?

    I've added an actual photo and a pretty accurate example

    any help would be great

    looks like a cold air feed into the air filter box.Car will run fine without it.

    Ya the one I thought about it the less it made sense but the flapping sound seemed like it was coming from that so I just assumed without really thinking. Will have to investigate further.

    Perhaps that pipe has fallen lower into engine and got caught and it's flapping underneath the car although it's only a small pipe and wouldn't make that much noise. Flapping sounds are usually the under engine guards/flaps have come loose and flap up and down when moving.

    I could be wrong but looks like a resonator goes there. It's just like a muffler for the air box to make it quieter.
