Passat v Octavia

    Hi Folks,
    am considering a new car for immediate purchase...was set for a 2011-2013 2L Passat but insurance looks high so am now thinking about an 1.6L Octavia of the same year. Both diesel. any advice or recommended alternatives?
    one Passat I had looked at has had the clutch and flywheel replaced (after 45K miles). Is this something I should be wary of on a Passat or more likely a driver related issue? 
    I'm doing 12K-15K a year, 50/50 long motorway journeys and city driving. Previous car was a 1.6 golf petrol - I'm assuming I'm borderline diesel/petrol territory and will probably go with a diesel. Should I notice much difference in economy at that sort of driving?
