Garage with car port exempt from planning?

Hi I'm looking at building a garage behind my house (on a rural site.)

I understand that 25sq m garage are exempt but if I build the garage with internal size of 25 sq m but with a car port (i.e. No wall on three sides) of say 10 sq m to one side, could this also be exempt?

I'm thinking it is exempt as car ports attached to a house are not included in the total sq m of habitable space but appreciate if anybody knows the official line

Gut feeling says it's not exempt.
It's similar to a canopy over the front door of a house. It's also not counted in the floor area for obvious reasons, but the canopy is limited in size to the exemptions of a porch so 2 Sq.m.

Get a local professional to view and advise.

Also, doesn't a garage have to be attached to the side of the house and match in finish to the main dwelling? Out the back is a shed.
