Neighbour left untaxed car outside our house - would you do anything?

There's a space to park outside our house, but a neighbour a few doors down has parked one of his cars there - it's tax and insurance are out of date.
There is already a car on his own drive in same nick... I presume he has bought them and sells them on?
Due to limited parking on the road, any visitors would have to park around the corner now. We are fortunate to have 2 cars, but also have to park the second around the corner (our driveway just fits one).

I know it's a public road, and another car could park there anyway, but his car has been there for weeks, not moved at all and is untaxed etc...

I guess I could report it, he'd know it was me and I don't want bad blood... I'd feel bad even approaching him to ask, as I've never met him... And not sure what reaction is get... Would he even care? I'm pretty sure an untaxed car can't be left on a public road?

It's just annoying for us and for any visitors we have.
I'm probably going to just let it slide and hope it moves quickly... Just wondering would many people honestly act on this?

Reporting him because he's parked in a space on a public street outside your house seems way extreme and very unneighbourly. Just knock on his door and politely ask if he would mind moving it! I'd wait until there's a space much closer to his own door and approach him then.

Yeah, I'd just ask him to move it from in front of your house.

had a guy do the same where I lived before. Called round to ask him nicely to move it but told me it was on the public road and he wouldnt. Two biscuit tin lids under the back wheels and a tow rope got it moved successfully

This is a 'pet' hate of mine - but noone will help you as it is s public road yiu have no rights. If he trades cars it can become a nightmare - sometimes people are reasonable when asked nicely but if he refuses then you are put into a corner as you have to suck it up or do something about it.

    Options for discussion;
    - how did it legally get to outside my house if it is not taxed, nct'd or insured
    - it would be reasonable to park it outside your home as it is not legal & questions can be asked by the gaurds about it
    - I would really prefer if you kept your business assets on your property - what is your company trading name? ( implues illegal activity & revenue questions)
-I'm really a bit upset about the car(s) being left outside my house - it blocks my turning angle and as the car seems to be not taxed/insured this creates a difficulty for me if is mentioned as being what contributes to causing an accident - is it yours
-I didn't know you were working from home - is your company registered
    - there has been a lot of perty vandalism on cars recently - have you been affected yet - I find it best to keep my car in my driveway within sight where I can keep an eye on it - have you been affected much yet?
    Etc

If its a public road - its illegal for it to be there untaxed/insured etc. I would be really annoyed too - that kind of turns the area into a junk yard.

I would raise it with them - but if you think that wont work./ Say nothing and report it to the Gardai as an abandoned car and hopefully it will get taken away.

    I feel your pain OP:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057625061

One neighbour parked across two spaces and another has two cars one of which is untaxed, uninsured and which she was unwilling to move to the bottom of the cul-de-sac (where I had to park) thus freeing up the space it was using.

Best advice is to ask nice and politely. Then if you've done your best to resolve it in a pleasant manner look at what other options are open to you. I would advise not to do anything silly though.

If you ask and they say no - then you go and report it to the Gardai...they will know its you. Thats the problem.

I think if someone thinks its ok to block others with an untaxed etc car on a public road they will not be the most amenable to move it.

Is he a new neighbour? Check with other neighbours in his attitude, and if he's a nice guy, ask, if he's not a nice guy, report the car anonymously for being on public road with no valid tax/insurance on display, etc.
