Hello all, I recently bought a saab 93 diesel.. tank was low and put 30 euro of petrol in by mistake. Limped home one mile. Car won't start. Left it one month, today towed to garage and put in 40 euro diesel.tow started it, smoked a bit ,drove it 30 miles, but won't rev over 2500. Engine management light is on. Engine misses at 2500. Has some electronic thingy kicked in.
By the way I know I am a bit of a wally

To be clear - did you drain the 30 euro of petrol out of the car before you put 40 euro of diesel into it?

Surely you drained the petrol first.

The electronic thingy is that you've ruined the engine by driving it a mile with the wrong fuel then leaving it sit inside for a month didn't help. What did the garage you towed the car to do/say?

Thank you all for your help I did not drain the petrol though Google told me how to do it easily enough. A mechanic up the street told me to take the route I did, I. E. Fill with diesel and drive away. . I am hoping that the car somehow detected the wrong fuel and put me in limp mode
The car is ticking over now, three hours after I got it going, still missing when revved, . Will go out now, do another 20 miles and park her up for a week. Am away to the UK to work

If I were you i'd drain the tank, put in fresh diesel, replace the fuel filter (fill the new one with diesel before fitting) and drive away. The mechanic was right in one way, a drop of petrol will do no harm, but imho €30 worth is too much to try to dilute with diesel.

A drop of petrol will do no harm on an older indirect injection diesel, on a common-rail like the OP's it can cause untold damage in a very small amount of time

That's on older mechanical bosch diesel, a totally different beast to anything post 2002 and irrelevant nowadays sadly

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to post that video. Slight difference in engine technology between an ancient Astra and a common rail Saab.

I know, I just miss the old yokes that would run on anything.

Thank you Rex.you seem quite sure of things.I am hoping it's a limp mode thingy.the reason I think it's not is that it's clearly missing at 2500 rpm.I was ;am thinking that a limp mode thingy would be more exact. Am away for a week.will see

Bring it to a decent mechanic to get the thingy looked at.
