Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but this is one of the funniest podcasts I've ever listened to.

Obviously best suited to headphones. :)
Imagine if your Dad wrote a dirty book. Most people would try to ignore it and pretend it had never happened - but not Jamie Morton. Instead, he's decided to read it to the world in this hilarious comedy podcast. With the help of his friends, James Cooper and BBC Radio 1's Alice Levine, Jamie reads a chapter a week and discovers more about his father than he ever bargained for.

Available on all formats, just search for it in your favorite podcast client.

There are 2 seasons with 30 full episodes that are 30 minutes long each and lots of shorter footnote episodes.

    But seriously, headphones.

Gave this a listen. The premise is great, and the extracts are hilarious in themselves.

That said, the commentators got on my nerves a bit.

Ah they grow on you. :)

    I don't know if you've listened to "I don't even own a television".

Same scenario, only it does a different book each episode. I suppose it's subjective but I just don't find the commentators that funny.

If you like this though then you should like "I don't even own a television"

I love 'My Dad Wrote a Porno!' - my friend recommended it to me and it's absolutely gas. Definitely agree with the headphones part. Sometimes i'm walking down the road or in the gym or whatever and it feels so unnatural to be listening to that type of thing in public that it makes me laugh!

I actually really like the presenters - I think they have good chemistry together and they make it more enjoyable to listen to :D

    Season 3 started today. :)

I tried but the two co-commentators killed it for me. If it was just your man reading the book I would have enjoyed it much more but those two chiming in after every sentence got fairly annoying

Hilarious podcast heading to live show in vicar street

You can also get the book with annotations from the presenters

Probably quadruples the length of the books. :)

Plus don't forget the your man's da that wrote the original book is Irish. Only fair to support Irish literature 😁

I like this. Myself and the wife listen to 3 or 4 episodes when on a long car journey and then don't listen again for months. I do see what people mean about the 2 co-commentators though. It can be annoying sometimes when they through their oar in on every single sentence. Sometimes less is more.

I think the novelty of this has worn off on me at this stage. I loved the first 2 seasons but it seems it's the same stuff again this time.

I was late to this so binged through the first 2 seasons so it's a bit strange having to wait for the new episodes every few day and maybe that's another reason why I'm not enjoying it this time.

I couldn't even make it through the first episode...was not funny in the slightest!!

I'm about half way through season 2 now. It would be much better if Alice didn't have a question or quip about EVERY SINGLE SENTENCE IN THE CHAPTER. It gets very tiresome.

That's what killed it for me, herself and the other Della's inability to shut up for more than one sentence

I see Alice is presenting the Glastonbury coverage on BBC4.. Didn't know she did stuff like that.

Yeah. Pretty sure she's a radio 2 DJ. One of the BBC channels anyway

I'd love to see them do this with different guests every week think it could really vary it up

Listened to series 1 a while back.. Funny at the start but wore off on me.

Any thoughts on the last season? Still finding it hilarious.. Think they've one more season before the books actually have caught up with the podcast. Will definitely be contrived if they continue after that.

Thought season 3 was pretty weak. The footnote guests or slots were often better than the actual chapter. Still have to say that was some cliffhanger for the finale!!!

The chemistry between the presenters is obvious and the way the can throw in their own anecdotes and stories tends to work well. Wonder if they would branch off into other topics?

Teaser released today ahead of season 4 starting next week. Decided to re-listen to the first 3 series as a reminder, can't wait...

God I haven't listened to this since the middle of Season 2. Is Alice still interrupting after every single line?

Maybe every 2nd or 3rd. To be fair, the footnotes are nearly better than the show itself.

Listening to Season 4, I’m enjoying it so far, on episode 8.

I really enjoy this podcast. Not sure why people are complaining about the hosts interrupting the story when its kind of the point of the podcast. Thats what makes it funny. The book itself funny because its so ridiculous but not funny enough to stand on its own. For me at least its the reactions of the others that make it so funny

Used to be a big fan but it feels too scripted now. Or like they know what parts makes the ratings like bursting into song and stuff like that.

The latest season is the money tits. Probably the best so far

I concur. Having said that, the quality of the footnotes episodes has dropped off, they had some kick ass guests regularly a few years ago, this year they've had Lin Manuel Miranda, which is class, Josh Groban was okay too I guess...
