    Hi,

We are about to do an extension and house renovations. We have lodged a building commencement notice stating we are commencing at the end of next week.

Our builder was able to start a few days earlier than planned and started clearing the site today and making preparations for a new driveway. Over the next couple of days he plans to dig out a patio in the back and build a retaining wall. We obviously won't be pouring foundations for the extension etc until the date we gabr the Council. My understanding was the other with considered okay as it does not require planning or fall under the building regulations but am doubting this now!

I'd be obliged if anyone could advise me on this.

    Thanks!

Sounds fine to me. 'Enabling works'.

Retaining wall is borderline, but I doubt any BCO will be bothered, especially with a small domestic extension.

Thanks Kceire, I didn't think building the retaining wall would be an issue as it's nothing to do with the extension and doesn't require a commencement notice? The extension is on a different part of the house. The retaining wall is small and for the patio in the back garden. We are not changing the ground level more than a metre there.

I wouldn't be worried about it then.
