Hi :) Does anyone know of a place in this country where it's possible to affordably rent out guitar amplifiers etc that could be used for gigs on a continuous basis as an alternative to buying an expensive amplier? Or would I be better off investing in an amplifier? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I'd recommend buying your own amplifier. "Expensive" means different things to different people, but I'd imagine that in the long run, buying a decent gigging amp of your own would work out a lot cheaper than renting.

Hi Rigsby, thanks for the helpful reply. Maybe I should invest in an amp then. It's probably more convenient to own an amp rather than rent it anyway. Just wondering there - if I wanted to set up a band would I have to invest in a PA system, monitors as well as amps etc or do venues usually provide PA systems for band's to use? I'm not sure how it all works. Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask these questions!

With regards a P.A....while some venues would have a band P.A.,... a lot don't. So if you intend to gig on a regular basis, then...as with a guitar amp... it would make more sense to have your own.

Having a P.A. which is owned by the whole band can lead to complications and sometimes friction. For example what happens if a member decides to leave the band ? These issues would have to be teased out, and agreed upon at the start.

Thanks for that. Wow, it seems that there's a lot to think about logistically before setting up a band! Looks like I'll have to figure out how to invest in equipment before I can do anything. Pity that there aren't renting services available. I know that there are places in Dublin such as "Sound Hire" that allows people to rent equipment such as amps etc but that option seems to be a bit messy though.

It is not messy at all....if you can afford to rent both the amp and the P.A. indefinitely ;)
