Corrib Village accommodation???

Hi I am an international student from the United States coming to NUI Galway for my first year, 2017/18 and I am freaking out about accommodation shortages in Galway!I am not familiar with the housing system/waitlist process in Ireland and I am concerned that Corrib Village (where I want to be living) is completely booked.  I have seen on a number of threads that waitlist students usually get in in late August, but I am wondering how reliable that is and how likely I am to get a bed, (of any kind, I am not choosy). I have applied to other student housing (gort na coiribe) and was put on a waitlist there just one hour after they even opened up the application!  If any students who have lived in Corrib could let me know what my chances are of getting accommodation, and if I should look into renting on the economy. Thanks! =)

Hey so I'm from the US too. Same situation pretty much. I believe dunaras opens for applications this Thursday and there might be possibilities at amhra house and Atlantis bus they don't have info about applying this year yet. I'm planning on calling gort in a few weeks to ask about where I am in the waiting list because it might be worth it to just wait it out. The whole deposit situation sucks though because you might get into gort after already paying the deposit at dunaras or something. If all else fails just find some buddies online to rent a room with- there's a Facebook group called House Hunting Galway (for sound people) that I've heard is a good place for help if the student residences don't work out. And digs is also an option where you live with a family that feeds you or something but I wouldn't really want that. Personal message me if you want to talk about more NUIG stuff. It'd be nice to know people before going over there- especially people in the same boat as an international student

Thanks for your response! I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one dealing with this, so so different the US dorm system huh?  I applied at Dunaras this morning just to have a backup, I know that I for sure want to be in student housing so that I can meet people but the deposit system seriously sucks!  I justified putting down the deposit since NUIG doesn't charge an application fee like most schools in the US... but I'm still hoping to get into Corrib Village since I heard it's best for 1st year students and for parties...  Let me know if you find anything else out! Good luck!
