17/18 Provincial coaching tickets

Looking at the coaching tickets at the 4 provinces (Irish coaches in bold):

    Leinster-
    Cullen
    Lancaster
    Dempsey
    Fogarty

    Munster-
    Erasmus
    Neinaber
    Flannery
    Jones

    Ulster-
    Kiss
    Gibbes
    A.N. Other

    Connacht-
    A.N Other
    Duffy
    McPhillips

    A few interesting observations:

    1. Cullen is the only Irish top dog, but if Lancaster stays on you would have to imagine he'd be running the show in all but name. Are Connacht likely to bring in an Irish coach? They were after Gibbes too.

    2. Leinster and Munster seem to have an extra coach over the other two provinces. I am excluding all the fluffy titles like Team Manager and Operations Manager, as well as S+C stuff. Coaches that actual use a rugby ball, they appear to have 1 extra each.

    3. In terms of progression to the national team post-Schmidt, there is nobody on that list that currently stands out as being a potential successor. Kiss would probably have been the front runner but he has a lot of work to do to salvage his reputation after this season. Lancaster maybe.

I think if Lancaster is staying on he could get the Director of Rugby title.

I know over the last couple of coaches we've tended to promote the Irish head coach from the Provinces but the IRFU may be better served extending the field outside of Ireland when Joe leaves. There may be some cracking options available post-World Cup 2019.

That's only because you've gone ahead and sacked Doak and Clarke... if you said:

    1. Kiss
    2. Gibbes
    3. Doak
    4. Clarke

    then it's exactly the same?

Think Felix Jones has some very nebulous job title too?

I'd say Erasmus is front runner but from reading other forums there seems to be a strong suggestion that he is taking the SA job this summer.

After that there is no one. Lancaster maybe, but he may well not want the job truth be told. I can't see Leo getting it and god this place would be a complete disaster every international window if he did.

I really rate Jono Gibbs and if he has some good seasons with Ulster he could well take it. I'd say if Erasmus stays he's front runner, followed by Gibbs tbh.

Surely Erasmus should actually win something before we start nominating him a successor? There was a big hype train around Lam after last season which quickly derailed.

I think it's a given that Doak and Clarke are out the door. One of them at least is going.

Gibbes is coming in and taking Doak's job title and Clarke's actual job.

Ah he's done a good job with Munster regardless of whether there is Silverware at the end of the season or not.

There are some very good teams between Munster and titles and I wouldn't signal Erasmus's season as a failure if they don't pick anything up.

The team is transformed from last season and are playing to their strengths. Joe has Ireland doing the same thing and it's worked well for us.

If I had to pick a replacement right now it would be Rassie tbh.
