Have the golf tours become a bit too spread, boring and lacking focus ?

OK, maybe over exposure and the reality of Sky hitting golf a major factor.

Was watching Pebble Beach - stunning place. But sums up the problems in golf, the lack of focus - a pro am - seriously.

You have the other money spinning daft wing of the European tour in a desert with very questionable real cultural or physical link to Europe - from a sporting, cultural and golf perspective - the end of the European season is a nonsense.

The top pros are turning up to events that fit into their season - have a sponsor link or are their own charity events or friends' favours.

Golf has become a bit of a mess. Basically - scratch my back - I scratch yours - a sponsor request etc etc.

I was always focused on the majors. But golf has little or no season at this stage - the pros just turn up for the last big money events.

Personally - I never want to see an amateur hit a golf shot at a pro event - bizarre , imagine that happening in any other sport in main season.

So after all that - maybe it is just over exposure and in reality. Ignore FedEx and Race to bloody Dubai

The Majors - that is it ?
    .

We have to let this idea go - that a national open is a golfing peak and target for pros.

To sum up - if you have to play golf with a daft amateur or make a sponsor obligation on TV. Sad place for our pro game to be at.

Golf from a loyalty or identity perspective, nearly worse than any sport we give stick to like Soccer.

I'd imagine for 95% of people who watch the majors , the majors are actually the only thing they are interested in.

Individual sports don't get much attention from the media outside of the major events so it's good for golf that there are 4 of them per year for the general public to focus on most sports aren't that lucky.Really they're the only tournaments that matter and I doubt the players even care about most of the regular events apart from the money they can make from them.Same applies for tennis where I'd say most people who watch the grand slam events will rarely tune in for the regular tour events.

I used to really enjoy watching the Sky coverage of both the US and European tours but recently I've lost interest unless it's one of the really big events or majors. Not sure what the reason is but it's harder and harder to watch people who are not the top stars - and I'd consider myself a huge fan so not sure what more casual viewers are feeling?

Not sure what the reason is but it has saved me €40 a month by cancelling Sky Sports.....

Read a piece by Ewan Murray in Guardian where he thinks that having another cut on the saturday to reduce the playing field to maybe 20 on a sunday would be an idea to consider.
As he said who really is interested in whether someone comes 38th or 52nd on a sunday.

Sharks with lasers, or lasersharks would snaz it up a bit.

One of the comments says to double the size of the whole. I cant disagree with that

I wonder is the fact that a certain Eldrick doesn't feature as much any more a bearing factor? I used devoutly turn on any golf Thursday nights but in the last 18 months not so much so.
Golf needs to do something. It badly needs a scandal. Drugs hookers the works.

Although Sky give great coverage they actually saturate TV with golf. For me both the Open and Masters have lost their mystic because of this. I remember waiting for the Masters to come on in the evening or day 1 of the Open with Steve Ryder from the golf cart. Now sky are onsite weeks beforehand telling you how long the grass is. Throttle it back please!
