VPN at a router level.

    I’m currently looking for a VPN at router level solution.

    I have a Virgin Media subscription for 300MB broadband. This comes into a Virgin media device - (https://www.virginmedia.ie/broadband/learn-about-broadband/equipment/).

    From here it splits off to an Apple Airport Extreme which has two express devices hanging off it to spread wifi throughout the house (it’s simpler for the kids). It also splits off to a wired network for a Mac & four apple TVs.

    There’s probably going to be a smart TV added to this in the shortly which will also be a wired connection. There’s three iPhones & three iPads connecting wirelessly.

    I’m looking for a solution for everything to be going through a VPN rather than just the Mac.

    I've found this device on Amazon which costs about £50 (they also have a "Lite" version for about half that).

    Does anyone know how this device would fit into my scenario?

    Would it go beside my switch and out from there to the wired network or at the VM device itself (which feeds directly to the switch).

    Had a look at the below and a couple of questions for you.

    Do you want to route out your connection completely over VPN? As in all traffic going in/out is via a VPN?
    Or do you need to VPN into your home network?

    Just having a quick look at that link, it doesn't state if the router's LAN is 10/100 or Gigabit.

    The router is also subscription based, so look at the costs around that.
    There's also very little tech specs on the router, what it's running, who manufactures it etc...

    The VPN throughput seems low also (Maximum 40Mbps according to the amazon link).

    That's what I was thinking of. I wanted to sideload some apps onto my ATV which recommend a VPN

    Yes, I noticed that. I suspect 10/100 because they said the max quoted speed available is 35Mbps (which would be about an 85% reduction in my connection)

    Any idea what sort of performance dropoff I'd expect with a software solution on my mac BoB_BoT? Any suggestions for a decent provider?
