Toyota MR-Spyder - horn not working

    Hi guys,

    The horn is not working on my 2000 MR-S.

    It gradually got weaker and weaker until it stopped.

    There was a high and a low unit installed but replaced these with a single unit but to no avail.

    I can hear the relay is clicking when I press the horn which is located behind the battery in the engine bay at the rear of the car.

    The fuse which is located in the fuse box in the engine bay is not blown.

    The car is off the road but I start it up and drive it every other week. I remove the negative battery lug when not in use Not sure where to go from here. Half thinking a rodent may have chewed at a wire. All other electrical components are kosher.

    Any constructive ideas guys?

    I'd start from the horn itself and work back. Sounds like you've confirmed the horn button, clock spring and horn relay are working. I replaced the noddy horn on my old Puma a good few times before I found something that didn't sound ridiculous. The best ones actually filled with water, lasting a solid 2 months.
    • Disconnect connectors, apply +12V and -ive ground directly to the terminals of the horn; it'll be very loud if it works, protect your ears
    • With horn in-situ (using it's own -ive grounding), apply +12 only, make sure it's own ground is ok.
    • Trickier, but remove the relay, and apply power directly to the low-side (30 -87 on a normally open relay) from inside the fusebox (spare male terminals are very useful for doing this)
