    They're both horrible basic spec.

    Would you look at a Prius, would be much better suited to urban driving. With the benefit of being more reliable and cost less to maintain.

    Im kinda set on the Skoda with the boot space.

    So Elegance spec is better right

    Elegance is better alright.
    The ones you're looking at seem to be uk spec Ambiente.

    Uk specs would be S, SE, Ambiente, Sport, Elegance, Laurin + Klement,

    The one in des darcy seems to be higher spec.

    At 12k per annum I'd advise you to look at a petrol.
    If you can try and get at least the 1.4 tsi and as colm said something which isn't depressing on the inside.

    You'll see no benefit from driving 12k miles per year around Dublin in a diesel car.

    Right Im looking at a petrol 1.2TSI , 105bhp , cant find any 1.4TSI models

    The 2010 2Ltr Diesel in Des Darcy is an import from Northern Ireland

    I have a 2011 Octavia Elegance DSG 1.2 tsi which is a great car around town and on the motorway. Very economical and Elegance spec is fantastic.

    I had an issue with the mechatronics/gearbox which is costing me €1800 to fix (with 2 yr parts warranty). No goodwill from Skoda for cars after 5 years.
    If its an automatic beware of any shuddering going into drive. There is a different gearbox obviously on manual.
