Water Supply - Backup Reservoir/Tank

Our original well started having supply issues so we decided to drill a new well.
We have just finished drilling this and are starting installation of pumps etc next week.

The supply is estimated at about 250 gallons/hour.
The well is 600 ft deep (deep I know, but what can we do!)

I am on the edge as to whether this will be sufficient to supply dry cattle & domestic needs.
Granted every foot (1ft) of the well holds about 1 gallon apparently.

Question: Can anyone provide info of how a backup tank is plumbed into the system to kick in when/if well cannot keep up with demand?

I'm wondering what I could put in this base installation that would allow me to add the backup tank at a later date if needed with minimal changes to tanks/pumps/switches etc.

    Any links or info appreciated!
